Arowana Case Study iSecurity Employee Access System

Client:                                                                                                               Technology:
A leading Airline in the United Arab Emirates,                              Oracle Application Framework
Awarded the ‘World’s Leading Airline’ three
years in a row.

Industry: Annual Revenue: Employees: Customizations:
Aviation US$4.1 billion 9,000 and growing Oracle ERP System

Network:
Over 85 Passenger and Cargo destinations in more than 55 countries
operating more than 1300 flights per week

THE NEED: The Airline’s Corporate Security Department was managing and maintaining every employee’s access request to various classified zones, within the Airport and other designated areas. They used excel spreadsheets to manage the issuance of ID cards, car stickers, Airport passes and Apartment keys to
Guest Houses. They wanted to automate this process and do away with excel sheets, to create a fool proof and failsafe method. There also was a need to integrate the process with their HR system and have an approval workflow process. There were audit concerns about the existing system and the directive was to regulate access to various facilities depending on an employee’s job description.

CHALLENGES:
Arowana was called in to study the existing system and develop a web based work flow system that will meet the needs of the Airline. The project named ‘iSecurity’ was expected to deliver superior control
and compliance with security regulations to maintain and organize individual access to secured zones. The system was expected to help enforce security related protocols on all employees in an efficient and uniform manner.

WHY ORACLE APPLICATION FRAMEWORK (OA FRAME WORK)?
This framework developed by Oracle Corporation for application development within the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) excels at creating 3-tier web-based applications. The framework maintains all security features.

One of the most important features of CA framework model is that it facilitates the customization of existing modules and also allows development of new Self Service Web Application modules. CA Framework provides benefits of productivity, scalability, and customization. Although the CA Framework is J2EE based, it can work on other industry standards like HTML, XML, Java, JSP, SQL and Web Services.
THE SOLUTION:
Arowana developed a solution for the Airline, for employee physical access management, using Oracle Application Framework. It was designed to effectively and efficiently run the process of indentifying employees and providing access to security zones.
iSecurity integrated with data from existing human resource management system to identify the role of an employee.
Since request and approvals were automated, the role of IT departments in facilitating the process was removed and transferred to corporate security.
KEY BENEFITS
• Building key maintenance module that integrates with facility management system for master information.
• Facilitate corporate employees/ contractors to submit Car parking sticker requests; through Oracle EBS suite self service.
• Automate ID card request generation for new employees once recruitment process completed.
• Facilitate corporate employee to submit ID card request on behalf of new contractors; through Oracle EBS suite self service.
• Facilitate corporate employees! contractors to submit Airport pass request sticker requests; through Oracle EBS suite self services.

Arowana Big Data Analytics

Big Data Analytics

Organizations around the world have realized that there is a pile of data residing in their system and there is a need to determine how this data can be mined to understand their customers better. There is a lot of chatter around this subject and Organizations are waking to the fact that they are sitting on a Gold mine of data which actually can help them to get valuable business insights and chart a future course of action.
Every Day, almost every company generates huge amounts of data that goes into different systems, servers and storage. The Core systems, ERP systems, web logs, call centre records, emails, all piles up and eventually becomes a huge avalanche of data and it resides, mostly untouched.
We at Arowana recognize the opportunities and challenges these vast quantities of data can provide. Proper capture, curation, management and process of these data can help Organizations derive highly intuitive intelligence that can identify trends and influence decision making. These data can be massaged using complex mutually interdependent algorithms and the resultant computer based simulations can provide a useful tool in the hands of the decision makers.
To be able to unearth these valuable nuggets of information, Arowana can help Organizations to implement ‘Big Data Analytics’, around systems, create dash boards that can seamlessly collect data using multi variate methods such as factor analysis and cluster analysis in a efficient manner. When this information is made available within set timelines, it will result in improved decision making, when the data and the information gleaned are actually relevant. Arowana has the capabilities to use the latest tools in the market that can work with separate sets of data, from various resources in real time, which will greatly assist in finding co-relations in a wide range of situations.

Arowana will collaborate, work closely with Organizations, understand the business and will be able to present the results which can actually help in improving Market Share, identifying potential opportunities and pitfalls and make the emerging technologies work in synergy with existing investments - towards new data-driven applications and analytics that can provide not only excellent business insights but also a ‘competitive edge’.
These tools and applications can integrate Data warehouses and BI tools in an optimized processing environment that will deliver maximum business value with low cost of ownership, resulting in a unified approach to big data architecture to support big data analytics.

Motivation equals production

There are several factors that effects production of work quality at a work place. One of the most important factors for good productivity is a happy worker.  In a work place no two people are alike, every person’s personality dimensions differ from another, people believe that they can control the events that effect them this is known as locus of control, based on this the workplace determines an employment management strategy to help the employees gel with each other  to hold good team work. Studies state that most of the time the salary of an employee is enough to keep him working for an organization, however work for money does not give 100 percent production.  An employee has to be motivated enough to work better and produce quality work.
Motivation is a person’s internal disposition to be concerned with positive and negative incentives or an anticipated reward. Atkinson’s and Mc Cleland’s theory of needs talks about three basic needs of an employee. Need for achievement, need for authority and need for affiliation. Every employee has a combination of these needs these needs help an employee move ahead with regard to his career.
In a workplace people learn to adapt and take on roles, if the work environment is stressful then it has an impact on the worker as well. Take for example:  A Fresher or an inexperienced person has newly joined a firm; he is directly instructed to work without getting to know his environment. He might just end up feeling catastrophic with his work; he may get stressed and would not be able to co-ordinate.  On the contrary if he is welcomed with a good orientation about the company and its working, well introduced to his co-workers, he might feel at home and begin to adapt to the work place more easily.
“All work and no play make jack a dull boy” is an important proverb to be followed at a workplace. If the employees have no fun once in awhile, work gets very mundane and irritating and can effect production. The HR and the management take on creative roles to make the work place fun. A few activities like quizzes and fun games or celebrations at a workplace make the environment fun to work at. With social media now taking the place of other basic mediums such as mails, there is more activity online. Such as an admin would post pictures of an event on Facebook and tag the members in the picture, the members who view it like comment and share the picture and spread happiness through socializing.
A happy worker does not have to an extrovert he can be a friendly project manager, a helpful boss or an understanding HR lead, these people hold a relaxed atmosphere understand their team members or co-workers and make sure that all members work in a synchronized manner.
A good day for any worker starts with a good greeting,or a smile. When we greet each other it gives a positive feeling. The body language of being greeted lets one know if he the other person is happy to work with him or not.
The catogories of people we work with is also a noted factor. A person who is cheerful and happy go lucky spreads positive vibes and makes even a dull jack work more lively. The humors ones can turn any table over and make you laugh at even at critical points. The creative ones will make you think, they have the capacity to unwind fantasies. The serious one will only make you reach your goal of achievement faster.
We can have a busy schedule for the entire month, at the end of the day all workers have to produce good end results. leisure is a very important key, because besides having work skill sets every person has talent as well. If the talent is not explored it just stays hidden in a dusty lamp.
An office with just four walls and 60 work stations on a floor would make a person feel dull, since employees spend a large chunk of their working in their office,at their desks, so you should try to make the office look as friendly and appealing as possible. If your create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for your employees, then they will be more eager to work. Posters, cartoons, creative work areas make people feel lively.
Employees must have good space to walk and breath otherwise they are going to feel like crammed sardines in a tin. Make sure that the temperature in the office isn't set too hot or cold, employees won't feel motivated to work if they are going to turn into icecubes similarly, if it is too hot they may just want to run around like the room has been set on fire. Good amount of fresh air and lighting is very important. Keeping the environment more casual is important as well, relaxing furniture around the office tells the employees that they can walk around and stretch if they have been rooted to their desks for too long.
Encourage people to make their work space more lively and comfortable for themselves. Instituting casual dress codes  once a week makes an employee happy as many would like to be in clothes that comfort them. Activities that involve a creative dress code should be encourged once in a while, it is pleasant to see people walk in nice, creative attires. For example: celebrating ethnic day at office, or perhaps have a fancy dress day
Recognize your employees as a group. Taking the time to let your team know that they are doing solid work as a unit, and show that you appreciate their efforts at all times. Taking just a few minutes out of your day to praise your employees for good team work can motivate them to work much harder.
Reward your employees for hard work. Setting up a system of rewards is an excellent way to motivate your employees. Whether you set up a contest to see who can accomplish something the fastest on a certain day, or if you have a competition to see who can generate the most revenue by the end of the month, any contest that has a reward, even if it's silly, will keep your employees motivated to produce solid work.
employees get too busy to take the time out and get to know the other employees. In order to develop a stronger relationship with your employees, organised fun activities once a month or have event that can involve all and make the environment enjoyable.
Having a few social events on the calendar will help people in an office get to know each other. People will be much more excited to come to work and to do their work if they are friendly, or even friends, with their co-workers.
Having lunch with your coworkers  helps people feel less isolated during lunch time it also helps to get to know each other better. Play cricket or football- these games are fun and many enjoy playing them
This is a great way for employees to bond,  more over it instills a sense of team spirit, after working together as a part of a different kind of team. Bonus points if you can play against other companies or branches of your department.
Happy hours for an employe to relax and laugh after work. This may be organized by anyone.
At the end of the day a motivated, happy worker is a productive worker. If an employee is motivated enough, has a good environment to work in and he is comfortable, he will make sure to give his best and produce good results.
A happy manager, inspires his team to work, a motivated team, inspire their co-workers to work, an individual feels like giving his best. With the best end results we have happy and satisfied customers.
Motivation is the key for good production.
